Bodoni typeface was created to be visually impressive rather than readable or practical to the viewer, it has repeatedly been described as “difficult to read” especially in smaller font sizes. Yet despite it’s imperfect attributes, Bodoni is still widely use even today and remains central in so many field - to the extent that almost every print workshop reinvented its own version of Bodoni, demonstrating it’s continued versatility.
INTERPRETING BODONI is an attempt to challenge the status quo of form dictates its function, that its decoration necessarily imparts specific meaning
or purpose to the typeface itself.
I wanted to interpret this perspective through an ironic lens by displaying the name of several iconic typfaces with Bodoni, which subverts a relationship between the past and the future, therefore, creates an ambivalence.
